The Mahapurush Adarsh Gram Yojana is a brand-new scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, set to begin on June 20, 2025, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This special scheme is focused on improving villages that are connected to great personalities of India—like freedom fighters, poets, saints, artists, and thinkers. These people are called “Mahapurush”, which means “great soul” or “great personality.” The goal is to honor their legacy by transforming their native villages into model or ideal villages, also known as Adarsh Grams.
Under this scheme, the government will develop these villages with better roads, clean drinking water, street lighting, sanitation, schools, healthcare, and modern infrastructure. The aim is not just to improve the living conditions, but also to preserve the cultural and historical importance of these places. These villages will serve as an inspiration for others, showing how tradition and development can go hand in hand.

A major highlight of this scheme is the construction of over 5 lakh houses (500,000 homes) for poor families under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana, which is part of the larger effort to provide housing for the underprivileged. A budget of ₹7,500 crore has been set aside for this purpose. This housing support will especially benefit the most vulnerable sections of society, ensuring they live with dignity in clean and secure homes.
The scheme also includes plans for skill training, digital connectivity, and better access to government services in these villages. By doing this, the government wants to create villages that are not just modern in terms of infrastructure, but also rich in cultural pride.

The Prime Minister has said that this initiative will keep the memory of our great personalities alive, while also helping today’s generation to learn from their values and teachings. This scheme combines history, culture, and development in a unique way.
In simple terms, Mahapurush Adarsh Gram Yojana is all about respecting India’s heritage and empowering its villages—a big step towards building a self-reliant, inclusive, and culturally rooted India. The launch on June 20, 2025, will mark the beginning of this journey to transform history-linked villages into shining examples of development and pride.
