In a bold move during a tense time, popular Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has stood by Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, who stars opposite him in his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. Amid growing criticism over casting a Pakistani actor in the film following India-Pakistan diplomatic tensions, Diljit clarified the timeline and intent behind the project, while praising Hania’s performance and professionalism.
The controversy flared up shortly after the trailer for Sardaar Ji 3 dropped, with netizens calling out the makers for collaborating with an actor from Pakistan, especially after the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025. However, Diljit has broken his silence and offered context.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit explained that the movie had been completed in February 2025, well before the attack occurred. “At the time of the shoot, the environment was normal. There was nothing controversial or political going on. We were working as artists,” he said. He emphasized that Hania Aamir’s casting was purely a creative choice, not a political statement.
Hania Aamir, one of Pakistan’s most celebrated young actresses, rose to fame through television dramas like Titli and Mere Humsafar, and films such as Parwaaz Hai Junoon. Known for her bubbly personality and expressive performances, she has a huge fan base not only in Pakistan but among South Asian audiences globally.

In Sardaar Ji 3, Hania plays the female lead opposite Diljit. The film is a romantic-action comedy, part of the much-loved Sardaar Ji franchise. While the makers have kept details of her character under wraps, sources suggest she plays a spirited, independent woman who partners with Diljit’s quirky ghostbuster character on a globe-trotting supernatural adventure.
Despite the backlash, Diljit had only praise for his co-star. “She was very good, very professional. Our communication was to the point—purely work-related,” he said.
In an industry where political boundaries increasingly blur creative expression, Sardaar Ji 3 is testing the limits of cross-border collaboration. With its international release slated for June 27, 2025, all eyes will be on how global audiences receive this unique pairing of two beloved stars from across the border.
