When Kantara released in 2022, it became more than just a film – it was an experience. Rooted in coastal Karnataka’s folklore and spirituality, the movie left audiences stunned with its unique blend of mythology, rustic action, and divine energy. Rishab Shetty, who directed and also played the lead role, earned immense appreciation for his powerful performance. Viewers across India praised the raw storytelling, emotional depth, and Ajaneesh Loknath’s haunting background score, especially the track “Varaha Roopam,” which elevated the climax into something almost spiritual. The film’s impact was so strong that it turned into a cultural phenomenon, celebrated not only for its entertainment value but also for reconnecting people with local traditions and deities.
Building on this massive success, Kantara: Chapter 1 is set to release on 2 October 2025 as a prequel, diving deeper into the origins of the divine legend showcased in the first film. The story is expected to explore centuries-old traditions, conflicts, and faith surrounding the Daiva, promising grand visuals and intense action sequences. The trailer, already out, hints at a much larger canvas, involving war sequences and powerful divine elements that take the narrative back in time.

Adding to the excitement, Punjabi superstar and singer Diljit Dosanjh has lent his voice for a special track in Kantara: Chapter 1. Diljit shared that he has a “personal connection” with the film, recalling how he was emotionally moved when he first watched Kantara and heard “Varaha Roopam” in the climax. His collaboration brings a fresh cultural dimension to the film’s music, further amplified under the supervision of the original music director B. Ajaneesh Loknath, who is once again composing for the prequel.
Directed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara: Chapter 1 carries the responsibility of living up to its predecessor’s legacy. With its mythological depth, breathtaking visuals, and now Diljit’s musical addition, the film has already created enormous buzz. If the first installment was a divine cinematic surprise, the prequel seems poised to be an even grander spectacle for audiences worldwide.
