Mahavatar Narsimha, released on July 25, 2025, has emerged as a landmark mythological animated film in Indian cinema. Directed by Ashwin Kumar, the film is the first installment in the ambitious Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, which will cover the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. The movie premiered in five languages—Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam—and was released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX formats across India.
The story is a faithful yet emotionally charged adaptation of the Narasimha avatar of Lord Vishnu, based on scriptures like the Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana. The plot revolves around Prahlad, a young prince and devout follower of Vishnu, who suffers persecution at the hands of his tyrannical father, Hiranyakashipu. After repeated attempts to kill Prahlad fail, Lord Vishnu takes the fierce and divine form of Narasimha, a half-man, half-lion being. The avatar appears at twilight to defeat Hiranyakashipu without violating the boons granted to him—restoring balance and protecting dharma.
The audience response has been overwhelmingly positive. Viewers praised the film for its stunning visuals, strong emotional core, and devotional storytelling. Social media platforms were flooded with reactions calling the film “goosebump-inducing,” “spiritually uplifting,” and a “visual treat that honors Sanatan Dharma.” The animation and design, rooted in Indian aesthetics, were appreciated for their depth and authenticity.

At the box office, Mahavatar Narsimha had a promising start. It collected approximately ₹2.01 crore on Day 1, with strong growth on the second day, reaching ₹2.1 crore. The Hindi and Telugu versions performed best, especially in urban centers like Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. Despite limited promotion, word-of-mouth and the film’s spiritual appeal helped increase show counts in several multiplexes.
In conclusion, Mahavatar Narsimha is more than just an animated film—it’s a cultural milestone. With its mix of mythology, powerful visuals, and emotional storytelling, the movie has struck a chord with audiences across age groups and set a strong foundation for the upcoming chapters in the Mahavatar Universe.
