Indian travellers are set to enjoy smoother and more flexible international journeys as several countries have recently introduced major visa reforms. From Europe’s multi-year Schengen visas to the Philippines’ visa-free entry, 2025 is shaping up to be a milestone year for Indian outbound tourism.
Europe Opens Doors Wider to Indian Visitors
The European Union has announced a new Cascading Visa System for Indian citizens, aimed at making travel across the Schengen zone simpler and more convenient. Under this reform, frequent and law-abiding Indian travellers can now obtain multi-entry visas valid for up to five years.
Previously, most Schengen visas for Indians were issued for just six months to two years. The extended validity allows travellers to move freely across 29 European countries—such as France, Germany, Italy, and Spain—without reapplying for a visa each time.

This change benefits professionals, students, and frequent tourists who maintain a clean travel record. It also reflects growing trust and stronger diplomatic relations between India and the European Union, encouraging deeper business and cultural exchange.
Visa-Free Entry to the Philippines
In another significant move, the Philippines has granted visa-free entry to Indian nationals for stays of up to 14 days, effective June 8, 2025. The initiative aims to boost tourism and make the archipelago more accessible to Indian travellers.
Visitors must carry a valid return ticket, confirmed accommodation, and proof of sufficient funds. For longer stays, a regular visa extension can be requested upon arrival.

This reform positions the Philippines alongside Thailand, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka—countries actively promoting Indian tourism through relaxed entry norms.
A Growing Era of Travel Freedom
Together, these reforms signal a new era of travel convenience for Indians. With easier access to Europe and visa-free travel in parts of Asia, the Indian passport is gaining stronger global recognition.
As international tourism recovers, such initiatives are expected to encourage more Indians to explore the world, while reinforcing India’s reputation as one of the world’s fastest-growing outbound travel markets.
